A dating service is basically a professional service designed specifically to help members meet each other for the purpose of socializing and dating. In most cases there are several levels of membership depending upon what each member is looking for in terms of dating. Usually you can choose friendship, casual dating, romance or lifetime commitment or some permutation of these.

Typical content will include hobbies, interests, favorites (such as books, movies and sports teams), and vital stats like marital status (hey, it still matters to some people), number of kids, occupation, age, etc.

The service then uses this information to make potential matches between people who seem to have a lot of common traits and would probably be compatible. Members have the option of getting to know the matches better or not depending on whether they find the profile of interest.

In today’s busy world, it’s a great way to meet a lot of people who have been prescreened, and you can specify certain things you don’t want. And if they can afford the dating service you’re in, you know they probably have a job at least as good as yours!
